THE FOUNDER - RYAN
I Built the Business I Wish Had Existed When I Needed It
I didn't set out to build a consultancy. I set out to solve a problem I was personally living through.
Running different businesses in Singapore, I kept hitting the same wall. I knew government grants existed but I didn't know which ones applied to me. When I finally found out, I wasn't sure how to use them properly. And when I tried to figure it out myself, it meant talking to multiple different people, waiting on replies, chasing information across different channels. It was exhausting. I was spending time I didn't have, on a process I shouldn't have had to navigate alone. I didn't have excessive capital as well and this felt more important to me.
"I kept wondering if I'm leaving money on the table? Could this be co-funded so I can put those resources to other areas to move the business forward?"
The same frustration showed up when I tried to grow my team. Labour costs in Singapore are real. Most of my business owner friends were saying the same thing — rising costs, difficult to sustain, burning out from doing everything themselves. I started using virtual assistants myself, and it changed everything. I went from managing one or two projects at a time to five or more without working more hours. The model worked. The problem was that nobody was packaging it properly for SMEs.
That's when I realised this wasn't just my problem. It was every SME owner's problem. And most of them didn't have the time, the network, or the knowledge to fix it.
Skillful SG is Founded
Started as a platform to help individuals and professionals connect with upskilling courses across multiple providers. The goal was simple: make training more accessible. But the more businesses Ryan worked with, the more he saw a much bigger problem emerging.
